Altamont Supports Los Angeles' Underground Arts and Music Scene

August 23, 2010 by altamont1001

The Smell for Altamont:

Altamont is honored to partner with Downtown Los Angeles’ legendary all-ages music and arts venue The Smell on this rare set of collaboration tees, each one bearing a different likeness of the The Smell’s infamous off-and-on volunteer “security team,” Daniel and Frank.

Bordering LA’s notorious Skid Row and continuing in the tradition of Los-Angeles-based underground clubs such as The Masque and The Jabberjaw, since 1998 The Smell has been a community oriented art and music space open to people of all ages who are interested in participating in and supporting an environment of creativity and artistic innovation and freedom. The designs in The Smell for Altamont series are The Smell’s first official merchandise offerings and all proceeds from the sale of these tees goes directly back into maintaining and supporting the The Smell’s minimum required upkeep and improvement costs. Altamont is proud to support The Smell and their ongoing mission of nurturing an independent arts and music scene based in Los Angeles and linked with other like-minded and vibrant scenes nationwide.

Both tees in The Smell for Altamont series are available exclusively at The Smell in limited quantities while supplies last. Visit the The Smell online for more information and a listing of upcoming events. The Smell is dedicated to keeping their events affordable, and most of their events are a low $5 admission. The Smell appreciates the public’s continued support and participation, and Altamont hopes that when you visit Los Angeles you will consider The Smell your home and to provide your invaluable input to the community.

About The Smell: Throughout its more than 10 year history, co-founder Jim Smith has ensured The Smell remains dedicated to the principle of D.I.Y. The Smell is completely not-for-profit and volunteer run. The community of individuals who call The Smell their home, whether it be the musicians who play there, the artists whose work hangs on the walls, or the dedicated supporters who attend the events week in and week out, are the same individuals who book the shows, run the front door, provide quality sound engineering services, staff the vegan snack bar, and help with cleaning and general upkeep. In the interest of these principles, and in keeping with The Smell’s commitment to creating and maintaining a space that is dedicated first and foremost to the art and the music, and to complete artistic freedom and innovation, The Smell is open to people of all ages and is alcohol free.
